Spiral Classifiers
Tank designs for optimal performance
The Metso Spiral Classifiers are designed to provide the most effective pool area and overflow velocity requirements. By combining the proper submergence of the spiral with one of the tank designs a choice of 63 combinations is possible in Straight, Modified or Full flare tank designs. The proper combination of pool depth, area and spiral construction is important to secure a controlled turbulence in the slurry flow for accurate size separation
Typical Installations:
The wet classifier may perform several applications:
Separation of fine particles and liquid from coarse particles
Separation of light particles from heavy particles
Separation of the particles into a number of products graded according to size
Separation of liquid from solid particles
Optimal particle size range 800 to 75 microns
Spiral classifiers:
Single Spiral Range from 300 mm to 2 200 mm
Duplex Spiral Models 1 500 mm and 2 200 mm |

Conventional Thickeners & Clarifiers
Metso Conventional Thickeners and Clarifiers are designed for continuous 24 hour per day operation. Thickeners give effective solids settling, clarifiers give clear liquid overflows. Units are supplied in two basic configurations: bridge or centre pier mounted.
Drive mechanisms, rake systems and feed systems are available to suit tanks from 5 m to 75 m in diameter.
Typical installations:
Chemical and industrial mineral processing industries - Ore processing industries. |

Inclined Plate Settlers
The two basic criteria for gravity settling equipment are good clarity of the overflow liquid and maximum density of the underflow solids discharge. The area needed to clarify a suspension is often greater than that needed for thickening. This means that in a cylindrical thickening tank, the lower section with rakes and drive mechanism can be oversized.
The Metso lamella principle uses several parallel inclined plates to maximise the available area for any available floor area. In this way, the size and cost of the gravity settler can be minimised by matching the clarifying and thickening requirements more closely.
Typical installations:
Sand & Gravel, Zinc Concentrate, Soil Treatment, Iron Ore, Contaminated Soil, Coal Slurry, Chemical Process Industry, FGD, Oil Sand/Water separation, Limestone, Salt Crystal separation |

Spiral Dewaterers
The Metso Spiral Dewaterer consists basically of an open trough with arrangements for collection of the products.
The inlet flow is evenly spread out by means of a feed distributor. Coarse material settles and is continuously removed by means of the transport spiral. The material will be dewatered by drainage in the upper part of the spiral before discharge.
The discharge launder for the dewatered material is easily adjusted between two positions, allowing alternative discharge into two separate bins. The clarified water passes a V-notched overflow weir which is adjusted at start-up to give even distribution of flow over the full width of the trough. A baffle plate will prevent floating materials from being drawn by the clarified water discharge.
Typical installations:
Mill Scale treatment in Continuous Casting, Hot Rolling and Scarfing |

Vertical Plate Pressure Filter VPA
Environmental awareness has been the major driving force in the rapid development of the filtration and dewatering technology. Also, increasing energy and personnel costs have made tougher demands on efficiency and automation of processes.
This development requires reliable automatic operation and simple maintenance from heavy industry. The Metso Vertical Plate Pressure Filter VPA has been developed to meet these requirements.
The features and benefits of the filter are:
Light weight construction with machined polypropylene filter chambers.
Compact design with pulling hydraulic cylinders for reduced space requirement.
Filter Cloth change, a one minute operation.
Available in several pressure ratings for different applications.
Few moving parts for low maintenance and high availability.
"Smart" PLC-control system for fully automatic filter operation
Load cell weighing system integrated to the PLC, for process control of the filter performance.
Typical installations:
Filtration of metallic minerals, industrial minerals, coal and tailings. |
